Jonathan Zeko, Principal Attorney of ZEKOLAW, APC, has a record of success resolving hundreds of complex commercial, construction, landlord-tenant, and real estate issues and post-judgment collection disputes, and has retained a loyal following of clients for over 30 years. Jonathan graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law after completing his Music degree at the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri at Kansas City where he studied classical guitar with Douglas Niedt and Modern Harmony with John Elliott. He has practiced law in California since his admission to the State Bar in 1989 and is an A/V-rated attorney by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, ranking him at the highest level of professional excellence. He is a well-known resource to the San Diego legal community and has lectured to Members of the Bar on a variety of topics.
With an impeccable reputation and extensive experience in both transactional law and litigation, Jonathan has built his success on always putting his clients’ interests first and proactively reducing their risk. He stresses a proactive, advocacy-based approach to resolving issues before going to trial, saving his clients time and money. Appearing in state, federal and bankruptcy courts when necessary, Jonathan has a deep understanding of the local courts, judges and legal community in the San Diego area, enabling him to easily maneuver in a complicated legal environment. Clients across the US turn to him when an expert is needed on the ground locally, and he views his role as his clients’ master advocate and ultimate fiduciary.
Part investigator, part trial lawyer, and part forensic expert, Jonathan brings a unique perspective and skillset to his clients. From walking construction sites, to reviewing change orders and detailed contracts and billings, Jonathan has an eye for seeing unusual details to get to the root cause and ensure final resolution. In addition to the traditional elements of his law practice, Jonathan has also developed expertise in investigating his client's adversaries to discover hidden assets or fraudulently transferred assets.
Before founding ZEKOLAW, Jonathan was a Partner at two San Diego law firms where he was a highly successful litigator. He began his career as a transaction attorney at Friedman, Jay & Kramer, at the time a well-known firm in San Diego focused on securities offerings and investments for capital projects. Gaining a strong foundation in loan documents, financing, leasings, technical writing, and drafting of contracts, Jonathan also learned how to see issues from an engineer’s perspective, all important skills he uses today.
A Master Guitarist, in his free time Jonathan remains passionate about playing and composing music. Like complex problem solving, playing the classical guitar requires a deep understanding of a piece of music before being able to perform it. To write a score requires mathematical, analytical, and creative ability to bring together notes and chords to form a certain sound. Jonathan approaches his legal advocacy like conquering a piece of music, understanding all aspects of an issue and bringing together all the right resources to ensure the best solutions for his clients.
